Basic Life Support for Health Professionals
This course is taught to the current New Zealand Standards for Health Professional Basic Life Support/CPR, and is suitable for authorised vaccinators, pharmacist vaccinators, nurses, radiographers, physiotherapists and other health professionals who do not require the more advanced courses available. Description
This course is taught to the current New Zealand Standards for Health Professionals Basic Life Support/CPR (Level 4), and is suitable for nurses, radiographers, physiotherapists and other health professionals who do not require the higher level courses available.
Please note that this course meets the resuscitation requirements for all authorised vaccinators and pharmacist vaccinators as per Appendix 4.2 of the Immunisation Handbook 2020.

- Patient Assessment
- Airway Management
- Adjuncts for Airway Management – Oro-pharyngeal and laryngeal mask airways
- Management of choking for adults, children and infants
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – Level 4
- One person & two person CPR for adults, children and infants
- Bag valve mask, mouth-to-mask and mouth-to-mouth ventilation
- Oxygen use in resuscitation
- Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Management of Anaphylaxis
This course highlights the significant technique and approach differences that exist between Health Professionals Basic Life Support and a non-clinical person for CPR.
